MaetrX Active Ice

MaeTrX ActiveICE yarn based cooling technology reduces skin temperature, so that the warmer your body gets, the better this thermal regulation technology works; the fabric becomes substantially more conductive, making it even more efficient at absorbing and releasing thermal energy from he skin. In addition, this fabric provides excellent UVA and UVB sun blocking, highly breathable construction, made of yarns channelled to quickly absorb and transfer sweat build up, with permanent Quick Dry, and extra soft handle for outstanding comfort. This makes MaeTrX ActiveICE a superior cooling technology.

Cooling Function Explanation!

  1. The body’s natural cooling function is necessary to keep core body temperature from surpassing the threshold which would threaten life;
  2. The body’s natural method of cooling is effected by sweat released from the pores on the skin; which is then exposed to the ambient air where the moisture can evaporate, promoting a cooling of the skin, which then reduces the core body temperature to prevent hyperthermia;
  3. The rate of evaporation is greatly effected by air flow: the greater the air flow on the skin from wind or created by movement of the wearer (riding a bicycle for example).
  4. Clothes interfere with the body’s natural cooling method, since clothes hold in body warmth and absorb the moisture from the skin;
  5. Normal wicking garments will remove the moisture from the skin and if the fabric is properly constructed, will move that moisture to the outside layer of the fabric where it can evaporate into the air.
  6. MaeTrXActive Ice greatly increases the cooling effect of normal wicking garments:
    1. The MaeTrX Active Ice yarn is specially constructed in a flat shape to increase contact with the skin; it is also channelled or grooved to permanently move moisture from the skin, and is derived from elements which noticeably increases the cooling effect on the skin: these elements from which the yarn extruded, are designed to absorb and remove heat from the skin at a higher rate than other synthetic yarns. ( The yarns have a higher “thermal effusively" than usual synthetic yarns)
    2. The difference between the cooling effect of a regular synthetic or natural yarn and the MaeTrX Active Ice is noticeable to the touch, when the fabric is dry: and this difference increases substantially when you sweat and when you are exposed to wind or your move from a static state to an active state. All of this is clearly exhibited in the new ASTM D 7984 test which rates Thermal Effusivity of any material.

Thermal Effusivity is defined as the capacity of a material to conduct thermal energy. As an example, if you touch an object made of metal in a room at room temperature, it will feel much ‘colder’ to the touch, than a wood object in the same room at the same temperature. The higher the Theramal Effusivity co-efficient, the greater the capacity of the material to conduct thermal energy and the ‘cooler’ the effect.

The Thermal Effusivity tests do generally correspond to the Q Max testing, but offers more explanation and details than the Q Max testing.

The fabrics which we have constructed from these permanent cooling yarns, vary from double knitted, bi layer fabrics, which increase transport of moisture and breathability, to single layer hi gauge knits which are thin an light, compression fitting, but also offer the highest levels of cooling function and UV protection.
